SZA and Solange released their collaborative music video in late December, 2017. Solange directed the curious video while SZA starred and provided smooth vocals for her song, “The Weekend.” The video shows SZA delivering each line of her new song from various, noticeably indiscreet locations. In the opening shot, SZA sways on the stone balcony of a big gray building; the camera only allows for the balcony and surrounding wall area to be seen. In another shot, she kneels in front of a wall with yellow plaster columns in medium relief. In another, perhaps the most distinguishable, SZA stands on a checkerboard marking in a parking garage. Any other information about the garage is hidden because the shot always focuses so closely on SZA.
Solange shared a video that praised SZA’s “Love Galore” earlier this year. The two have now applied their mutual admiration to their work. SZA is nominated for Best New Artist, Best R&B Performance at the 2018 Grammys. SZA shared a statement about her nominations. “This entire thing puts my wildest dreams to shame.” In another statement to Pitchfork, SZA admitted, “I’m literally still shook.” Watch the new video below.
