SUMAC, Cult Leader and Converge announced joint dates for the winter of 2018. They plan to start in Vancouver at the Rickshaw Theatre before heading south to Arizona, where they’ll play the Nile Theatre. Converge will be promoting their new album “The Dusk In Us“, comes out on November third.
Converge is a Massachusetts metal core group Jacob Bannon and Kurt Ballou started in 1990. The band underwent its one and only lineup change while recording their fourth album, Jane Doe, when guitarist Aaron Dalbec left; bassist Nate Newton and drummer Ben Koller joined. Four albums later, they have an impressive discography including three live albums and multiple EPs. They’re sound most closely resembles traditional punk mixed with typical heavy metal to create something that is neither typical or traditional. The band has been acknowledged as early influencers in the mathcore subgenre.
Cult Leader is another metalcore band, but out of Salt Lake City, Utah. They formed later in 2013, but have been no less active. The group is a sort of reincarnation of Gaza, another band from Salt Late City that shed three of its members to Cult Leader after its breakup. They have released two EPs and a 2015 studio album, Lightless Walks on Bannon’s label, Deathwish Inc.
SUMAC formed in Vancouver in 2014 and includes Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists) and Vashon, Washington-based Aaron Turner. Their debut album, The Deal, was released on Profound Lore Records in 2015. Turner’s goal in creating SUMAC was to experiment with the heaviest sound he could muster.
