Alessandro Cortini Releases Melancholy New Song “Vincere”

Alessandro Cortini, member of Nine Inch Nails’ and How To Destroy Angels’ live band has shared the second track off of his forthcoming LP, AVANTI. “Vincere” is a melancholic track that seeks to give the bittersweet feeling of recalling memories. Cortini had this to say about it, “Vincere” (to win) follows the main theme of AVANTI as a whole: memories that are gone but leave a sense of sweet melancholy, embellished by the very thing that makes them faulty. Vincere is about youth, about pure happiness and utter lack of fear….Just look at that smile (that’s a little me in the video)…getting back to that purity should be everyone’s ultimate goal in life.”

Prior to making the record, Cortini has discovered an archive of home videos made by his grandfather, who recently passed away. He found the footage to perfectly transport him to moments lost by time, but they were missing one crucial element – sound. But, in scoring the music himself, Cortini realized how imperfect and inconsistent many of his memories were.  “I really like that about memory and music, both from an instrumentation and playback point of view, I like imperfection,” he says.

Cortini continued to elaborate on AVANTI, which is wholly centered on nostalgia. “There’s this melancholia that comes with memories of bygone days, whether they were great or not, they’re gone and you can’t go back to them,” he says. “That’s why I named the record AVANTI, it means ‘forward’ in Italian and that’s the only direction you can go.” Many of the recordings sampled throughout the tape are those that Cortini enjoyed in his childhood.

The album will be available October 6th, and is currently available for pre-order. In addition to AVANTI, Cortini has another album in the works, this one collaborative tape with drone artist Daniel Avery. As of now, the singles “Sun” and “Water” are available.
