Red Bull Music Academy Presents Todo Es Metal: With Transmetal, Thantology, Sadistic Intent And More @ The Los Angeles Theatre 10/21

When Red Bull Music Academy puts together events to showcase, they make sure they get the best out of every genre. Any lover of metal is bound to bang their heads to this timeless lineup aptly dubbed “Todo Es Metal”. In an attempt to bring together two distinct scenes from Southern California and Mexico, key local artists are set to perform with international guests at the Los Angeles Theatre on Saturday, October 21. The performers include Transmetal [MX], Disgorge [MX], Thanatology [MX], Sadistic Intent [LA] and Terrorizer [LA]. Despite the city’s insatiable want for other genres like black metal, death metal, hardcore punk and doom – especially amongst younger Latinx fans – it remains rare for some of the most important underground metal bands in Mexico to play in LA (or in the US at all, for that matter). This changes on that Saturday night, with distinguished Mexican metal bands and Latinx-led groups from LA playing side-by-side in an ear-splitting celebration of culture.

The Red Bull Music Academy is a global revolution committed to aiding creativity in music by celebrating musical culture and the transformative minds that fuel the fires underneath it. Since its inception in 1998, RBMA has taken specific doctrines from its annual workshop for selected participants and applied this curatorial approach to events, lectures, and citywide festivals year after year. From São Paulo to New York City, to Berlin and to Los Angeles, each Red Bull Music Academy Festival celebrates its host city’s iconic musical past and indelible present, with acclaimed original programming that includes specially commissioned works, conversations with essential music-makers and performances by some of today’s most impactful artists.

Transmetal is a thrash metal and death metal band formed in Yurécuaro, Michoacán, México in 1987 by Javier and Juan Partida. Transmetal has been one of the most important bands in Latin America, releasing over 20 albums that have experimented in thrash and death metal. Currently signed to La Mazakuata Records, song themes are usually centered around armageddon, violence, death and prophecies. Transmetal’s entire discography can be found here if you’re feeling nostalgic and want to listen to trash classics.

Thanatology is a self-proclaimed “medicinal” grindcore metal band in Mexico–from Tijuana, Baja California. Founded in 1998, the band found influences in bands like Napalm Death; Thanatology is currently signed to Negligent Records and has released four studio albums, Grind Metalico Forense (2006), La Clinica De Lo Grotesco (2007), Los Barberos Cirujanos (2013), and Thanatology Vs Besta (2014). Most, if not all if the lyrics are centered around the theme of human extermination and medical torture.Their Bandcamp can be found here if you’re interested in taking listen.

Sadistic Intent is American death metal band formed in 1987 from Los Angeles. They were originally known as Devastation from 1986-86. After the name change, the band has consistently put out demos, EPs, compilations and splits since 1989 with the Conflict Within demo. In fact, there’s over 10 albums that they’ve worked on since then. Common themes lyrically discussed are satanism and armageddon, or the end of the world. Sadistic Intent is linked to record label and record store Dark Realm Records in Downey, California. The owners of the store, brothers Bay Cortez and Rick Cortez, are both Sadistic Intent members. Sadistic Intent is currently signed to Iron Pegasus Records in Germany.
