So far it has been a good year for the American heavy metal band Mastodon. Earlier in the year Brent Hinds, Brann Dailor, Troy Sanders and Bill Kelliher received positive feedback after releasing their seventh studio album Emperor of Sand. The beloved rock group plans to follow that success with their next album Now, Cold Dark Place, coming out September 22nd and a fall tour starting early September and will end early December. But before Mastodon plans on making a trip across the country and overseas rocking out venues and stadiums the group recently shared a video of track from Emperor of Sand, “Steambreather,” to prepare their fans for the shows that await them.
“Steambreather” is a video full of satire that reflects the Mastodon’s lyrics about feeling lost and at times misguided. The video starts with two individuals hanging outside a community center that’s hosting a small spiritual conference. The two decide to enter the building & discover that the conference is actual a cult gathering. While the leader of the cult begins preaching his ways to those in attendance you can hear lyrics like “I wonder who I am, reflections offer nothing/I wonder where I stand, I’m afraid of myself,” in the background as the small attendance becomes easily influenced by the preacher’s words. The two individuals discover to be lost souls themselves, becoming victims to the allure of illusions. Below you can checkout Mastodon’s new video “Steambreather.”
