It’s safe to say that Scott Walker is a legend. Whether being a teen idol for the pop music trio The Walker Brothers or becoming a radical musician/songwriter, the American born British pop icon has been admired by fans
around the world & even his peers such as the late David Bowe & Leonard Cohen, for his eccentric career path and baritone voice for the past 47 years. According to reports from Pitchfork, BBC Prom paid homage to the legendary singer this past Tuesday at Albert Hall with a tribute concert to him.
With the help of conductor Jules Buckley and the Heritage Orchestra big name acts like 90’s figure head of Britpop, Jarvis Cocker, took the stage and performed some of Walkers’s greatest hits. Cocker took the role as the opening act for the beautiful event by matching his idol’s baritone voice on songs like “Boy Child” and “Plastic Palace People.” Cocker’s voice is so deep and gentle that at times you can feel like a kid listening to a story from your father & with the assistance from Buckley & the Heritage Orchestra you can be see colorful pictures of the stories while Cocker is performing.
Jarvis Cocker however wasn’t the only artist who got to chance to honor Scott Walker. The BBC Prom also included other huge names such as Susanne Sundfør and John Grant who like Cocker performed some of their hero’s hits like “Angels of Ashes,” “The World’s Strongest Man,” “On Your Own Again” and “Rosemary.”
