Last night (July 3rd) at a concert in Paris, the Foo Fighters debuted new song off of their forthcoming album, Concrete and Gold. “Dirty Water” is the 4th song debuted off of the album, though only one song, “Run”, has been released as an official single. Fan can look forward to the new album coming on September 15th.
As seen in fan footage of the show, frontman Dave Grohl began introducing the song midway through the concert. “Ok, so this is where I stop looking at the set list, and we just start playing songs that we want to fucking play.” He then casually asked the band if they wanted to play Dirty Water, and gave the audience an introduction.“This is a song that we’ve been waiting to play for everybody. Nobody’s heard this song yet, but we like it. Every night before we come on stage, we sit backstage and we play it, but because it’s too nice, you know? It’s a new song, it’s on the new record, it’s called Dirty Water.”
Concrete and Gold will be the Foo Fighters ninth studio album, and their latest release since 2015 digital download, Saint Cecilia. The album is expected to bring a slight change to the classic Foo Fighters formula, and has been described by the band as bringing a sound where”hard rock extremes and pop sensibilities collide”. Symbolic of Foo Fighters shifting sound, prolific pop producer Greg Kurstin has been brought on-board for Concrete and Gold. While you may not recognize Kurstin’s name, you would surely recognize his work. The 10-time Grammy nominated producer has worked with artists like Adele, Kelly Clarkson, and Sia. Time can only tell how this new sound will work out.
As of now, Concrete and Gold, or as Grohl put it, “Motorhead’s version of Sgt. Pepper” is available for pre-sale. As if that wasn’t enough, the band is also getting ready to embark on full, 26-stop US tour. The tour kicks off October 7th with Foo Fighters’ own music festival – Cal Jam 17. The concert will include major supporting acts like Queens of the Stone Age as well as carnival rides and a waterpark! Grab tickets here while you still can.
