A Tribe Called Quest Cancels European Tour Due To Injury

A Tribe Called Quest, one of the most legendary hip hop acts in history, have had something of a Renaissance as of late with the release of their stellar 2016 album We Got it From Here, although any success has unfortunately been overshadowed by the tragic death of Phife Dawg just before the album’s release. With the success of their new album, they have become quite the sought after act for festivals and shows alike, however it looks like that momentum might have to take a pause.

Today it was revealed that Q-Tip has injured his shoulder, and while we don’t know how he managed to do that, the injury is severe enough that surgery will be required. As such, Tribe has canceled their appearance at Denmark’s Roskilde festival, with Ice Cube serving as a replacement, as well as the rest of their European tour dates.

“We had obviously really looked forward to presenting A Tribe Called Quest this summer, but we fully understand the doctor’s strict orders that Q-Tip cannot perform after his surgery,” the festival said in a statement. A press release from Tip confirmed the cancellation of the rest of the European dates, but made no mention of Canada’s Pemberton Music Festival in July.

Here’s the full statement:

“Have a bit of unfortunate news to share … I’ve injured my shoulder and now need to have surgery which means Tribe won’t be able to perform for our faithful fans in the UK, France, Denmark (We Love Green Festival June 10th in Paris; Parklife Festival June 11th in the UK; and Roskilde Festival July 1st in Denmark). I’m hoping for a speedy recovery and looking forward to getting back to these countries as quickly as possible to perform for all of you. Much Love – Tip”
