Sigur Rós Announce New Six-Day Norður og Niður Holiday Arts Festival in Reykjavík

Sigur Rós comes out of the shadows with a holiday arts festival, live performances and tour dates.

Sigur Rós, the post-rock band out of Reykjavík, Iceland had just revealed new music for the first time in four years, song called  “Norður go niður,” last week, which we know was a preview to their announcement of a Icelandic arts event called, Norður go Niður, that will be put on December 26-31 in the birthplace of their group.

Norður go Niður, which is translated most accurately as ‘everything is going to hell,’ is a six-day event that will take place at the Reykjavík arts venue, Harpa, that will include several performances from local musicians, art installations and more.

This event will be a special homecoming for Sigur Rós, where they will play four shows on December 27-30 and it will be their first performance back in their local neighborhood in five years.

Sigur Rós, is comprised with guitarist and singer Jón Þór “Jónsi” Birgisson, bass player Georg Hólm and Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson. and they got together back in Iceland in 1994. They began to receive attention from the states when they released the album “A Good Beginning.” Since, the band has made their name and their brand based on their delicate and classic sound, and were also very well known for using a bowed guitar. Sigur Rós has also worked with Radiohead and their songs have made appearances on shows like Skins and CSI: Miami.

Sigur Rós’s last album was Kveikur, which was released in 2013, and the band plans to go on tour across North America beginning April 7 in Santa Barbra.
