Sampha @ El Rey Theatre 4/11

The long awaited album from British singer, songwriter and producer Sampha finally arrived this year and it’s everything and more of what was expected from the velvet lyricist.  Long known for his work with acts such as Kanye West, Drake, SBTRKT and Jesse Ware, Sampha ignites listeners with a blue flame of music that seems to feel so good it hurts.  Hard hitting drums that at times skip like smooth stones across a placid lake, truthful piano loops and vocal samples all combine create the journey that meets at a crescendo then slowly ascends to a softer resting place.

Prior to his debut Process, Sampha released to EPs, Sundanza in 2010 and Dual in 2013, respectively.  All three of his official releases have come by the way of Young Turks records, which by the way will be hosting a show in Palm Springs prior to Coachella with a slew of artists from their roster.  Sampha included.  As a featured artist, Sampha has over 12 appearances since 2011 and shows no sign of slowing down.

On Tuesday April, 11 Sampha will be performing at the El Rey Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles prior to his Young Turks and Coachella appearances.  This is a rising turned shooting star with one of the most unique and talented voices music has had the pleasure of traveling through.  Make sure to mark your calendars and save your weekly allowance for this one.
