Today, Broken Social Scene offered music fans the first taste of their upcoming new album. According to Brooklyn Vegan, the song, titled “Halfway Home” was premiered today on Jenny Elisco’s SiriusXMU radio program before an interview with leader Kevin Drew. Hear the rip below:

The song has an upbeat pace that is typical of many of the band’s most soaring pop masterpieces with their trademark group vocals blending the male and female members’ voices. As Elisco says, it is a song that is almost “all chorus.”

The news of Broken Social Scene’s new album first arose back in August of 2016, when it was revealed that one-time collaborator Feist would rejoin the Canadian avant-garde pop group on their upcoming album. While the record was not given a proper release date and few details outside of the rekindled collaboration exist, it expected to be released in 2017 and probably this summer according to Drew. Broken Social Scene will be playing at Field Trip Festival in Toronto, the band’s hometown.

Feist is making a bit of a solo return as well, releasing her first album since 2011’s Metals. Pleasure will be coming out on April 28 and has produced one single so far, one that shares title with the album. The announcement came as a bit of a surprise to the singer-songwriter, as she detailed on her Twitter account later after the world learned of the new record.

According to Brooklyn Vegan, the band will also appear on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, joined both fellow Canadians Emily Haines and James Shaw (Metric) and Amy Millan and Evan Cranley (Stars). Tune in to see if the band offers up another song from the album or gives the audience the first ever live taste of this new music.
