As the world turns and we creep closer and closer to our own day of reckoning, so does another music festival announce its lineup. Let’s get to it.

This week, the Newport Folk Festival announced its 2017 lineup and there are some heavy-hitters on the list. The festival will be held on July 28-30 at Fort Adams Pt. State Park in Rhode Island.

The headlining triumvirate for the folk festival located in Newport, Rhode Island will include Angel Olsen (you can see her virtually anywhere this year) and Rhiannon Giddens who have both had stellar 2016’s, with Giddens looking to continue that momentum this year with the release her new album Freedom Highway and solo tour this spring. Fleet Foxes (where have they been?) will also be in attendance, making this year their first run of public appearances in over six years in the U.S.

The festival is somewhat legendary in the folk world as it introduced arguably the biggest folk artist in history, Bob Dylan, to audiences as his career was in his infancy. The festival was also home to the infamous “Electric Dylan” controversy where he was booed by some fans with an electric blues/rock band (gasp!) backing him.

While the lineup is far from finalized, fans can expect folk artists such as Seratones, Big Thief Margaret Glaspy and several others to make an appearance over the weekend.
