Jared Boulanger has dealt with multiple line variations since the inception of Austin based indie rock band, The Sour Notes. Boulanger– at the time was living in Houston –initially released the EP The Meat of the Fruit as a solo effort under the moniker The Sour Notes. With the recruitment of Boulangers longtime friend Chris Page, the would be solo effort, would go on to become a full-fledged band.
After the recruitment of Page, the band migrated to Austin, and gained a drummer and bassist. More lineup rotations lead to the help of Elaine Greer, who played keyboards on the synth heavy third LP, It’s Not Gonna Be Pretty. The Sour Notes have been showcased at SXSW, toured nationally, and played notable music festivals including CMJ and Fun Fun Fun Fest. Their latest full-length, Do What May, released in 2014, and featured vocals from several Austin musicians such as Lauren Green of Mirror Travel and Sabrina Ellis of A Giant Dog. The group stays busy with their prolific touring schedule, and their fourth album, Darkest Hour, is due for release sometime in the near future.
Cheer Up Charlies will be hosting the The Sour Notes next year on January 7th, and they will also be playing a show at Hotel Vegas on New Year’s Eve.
