Scottish-American alternative rock band, Garbage, have just released their newest music video for their second single “Magnetized”, which comes off their most recent critically acclaimed album Strange Little Birds.
Directed by Scott Stuckey, the clip features the group’s unique and distinguished sound and sight, with provocative visual aesthetic layered under thundering percussion and intense sound synthesis, peppered in with the lead vocals of Shirley Manson. Cutting between disturbing images that would seem like something out of a horror story, the music adds perfect intensity to the already eye-catching visuals of mental ward scenes, and faded backgrounds of bugs or multi-colored gnarly effects, some would say a little too much, but most would say it’s exactly in Garbage’s wheelhouse.
Describing the video, Garbage singer Shirley Manson offered, “We made the video for Magnetized at Pancake Mountain Headquarters in Los Angeles with an incredibly gifted team under the madcap direction of my next door neighbour Scott Stuckey. We wanted to create an ode to the magic of science and the mysteries of love.”
Recorded and produced by the band, comprised of Shirley Manson, Steve Marker, Duke Erikson, and Butch Vig, the album was released back in June via the group’s own record label STUNVOLUME Records. Debutiing at #1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums and Alternative Albums charts, overall ending at #14 on the Billboard 200 list.
The band is currently hitting the road with their support tour for Strange Little Birds, taking them around the US performing their latest work to their fans, and with this new video, one can only think what else the group has in store.
