According to Consequence of Sound, legendary melancholy rock soundscape group Radiohead have shared their newest music video for their song “The Numbers” off their recent A Moon Shaped Pool LP.

Just as with their two previous music videos “Daydreaming” and “Present Tense“, the group had enlisted the help of Paul Thomas Anderson, the Oscar nominated direction for this project as well. The clip is very simple concept, it features band members Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood sitting on a pair of benches across from each other in a park overlook, and they are just singing to Mother Nature in a scenic performance. Serenading to the trees, the wind, the grass, the air, and the life around them, the two artist are captured fluidly in very few camera changes, with the angle of view switching very seldom.

The minimalist approach that PTA chose to use for this song elevates the focus the listener has to the melody and structure of the song, not allowing the viewer to be distracted by too many moving parts and unnecessary visual changes. The camera captures the true emotion that Radiohead is attempting to convey in the track, it shows that the group thinks about the visual aspect of their art as well as the auditory aspect.

This new music video is another successful benchmark on the group’s already bolstering collection of work. It seems they have found exactly what they were looking for with Paul Thomas Anderson and will very likely use his visual talents for upcoming work, the hardest part is the waiting.
