The Best Fest has just announced 2016’s Petty Fest celebrating the music of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. The festival marks 40 years since the group released their self titled debut. Ticket sale proceeds will go to Refugee Foundation for the Arts. The foundation supports the creation of music and art and was created as a response to the scarcity of resources available to artists today. Their work will be going towards serving their mission of “Helping Artists Create”. Of the foundation, Best Fest founder Austin Scaggs said
“Raising money for Refuge Foundation, and doing our part to help support and nurture a new wave of musicians and artists makes this all worthwhile.”
Cory Chisel founded Refugee Foundation along with Adriel Denae. Both of the artists are also set to perform at the festival. For Petty Fest, organizers will focus their partnership on emerging musicians and The Refugee Artist in Residence Program. Singer/songwriter J-Council is the first such musician in residence and will be performing at the festival.
The Best Fest’s house band The Cabin Down Below Band will host the show. Some of the confirmed artists set to perform are Jakob Dylan, Carly Rae Jepson, and Matt Schultz of Cage The Elephant. Check out the full lineup below.
The Best Fests began fifteen years ago with a small celebration of Bob Dylan’s 60th birthday. Since then, there has been Dylan Fest, Petty Fest, Stones Fest, George Fest, Brian Fest, and Neil Fest. The Best Fests have traveled all over the world and have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for various charitable organizations. They have hosted shows in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Austin, Nashville, and Chicago, among others. Guest artists have included Brian Wilson, Norah Jones, Johnny Depp, The Black Keys, Weird Al, and many more.
The festival will take place on September 13 at the Fonda Theatre in L.A. Tickets go on sale Friday, August 26 and can be purchased through the Festival’s website.
