LISTEN: Temple of the Dog Release “Black Cat” Demo

According to Consequence of Sound, Seattle supergroup Temple of the Dog have released new demo off their upcoming 25th anniversary album reissue. Even though it has been making its way around the internet for a few years, “Black Cat” is finally going to be released officially.

The new track opens up with steam noises and bells chiming, singer Chris Cornell enters in singing the lyrics “Gone for good, gone for long/ Don’t believe I made it home/ And I hope he don’t come home.” as if pining for the metaphorical cat. As the song goes on we hear notes from an electric guitar, and a small rhythmic section building, with the vocals sounding as if they are being sung from a distance, giving the track a real 70’s rock feel.

Cornell sat down with Rolling Stone Magazine and discussed what to expect with the album, that is creeping towards its release on September 30th, and the upcoming tour that the group is scheduled to go on in order to promote the reissuing. He stated “We’ve discussed what other songs we might play in addition to the 10 songs from the album ,but it was mostly left on the table to be discussed as a later date. It’s still a mystery to me.” If the track is any indication, it seems like guitarist Mike McCready will have lots of fun sliding up and down the neck of his guitar to this track.

As it gets closer and closer to the reissuing date, more mixes will be added to the already packed track list. We are very likely to continue to hear more jams that will pump the fans up for what is to come from Temple of the Dog.
