According to Pitchfork Magazine, Eagles of Death Metal, who were the band that performed on November 13th right before the Paris Terror attacks at Le Bataclan, during which a shootout ensued in which 89 people were killed, have been dropped from festival lineups due to comments made by frontman Jesse Hughes. As of now two French music festivals, Rock En Seine and Cabaret Very festival, have dropped them from their lineups and it seems a few more will follow suit.
Earlier this March Jesse Hughes, frontman for Eagles of Death Metal, appeared on a Fox Business Network discussion about the horrific attacks in Paris during their show, blaming it partly on security and suggesting that some security staff members did not show up to their shift at Le Bataclan that evening due to inside knowledge, believing that they were somehow involved in the terrible attacks “Out of respect for the police still investigating, I won’t make a definite statement, but I’ll say that it seems like [some security guards] had a reason not to show up.”
Quickly afterwards he apologized for his senseless comments, calling them “absurd and baseless”, attempting to sweep the incident under the rug. However, recently sitting down with VICE co-founder Gavin McInnes in Taki’s Magazine, he brought back similar assertions. Continuing with his claims that “liberal mentality” is to blame for the terrorism strikes, still suggesting that security knew something about the attacks and were in on the idea with the assailants. “I saw Muslims celebrating in the street during the attack. I saw it with my own eyes. In real time! How did they know what was going on? There must have been coordination.”
NME reported that due to these severe comments, the band has been dropped by a couple of major French festivals, who now want nothing to do with the group. Cabaret Vert festival and Rock En Seine concert issued a joint statement explaining the cancellation “Being in total disagreement with Jesse Hugues’ recent allegations given in an interview with an american media, both Cabaret Vert & Rock en Seine festivals have decided to cancel the band’s performance. We thank you for your understanding.”
No word yet on any response from the group, or any new reports on other festivals who intend to drop the band from the lineup, but it seems like the future will be a little less busy for Eagles of Death Metal.
