A new mysterious video has just been released by the critically acclaimed rock band At The Drive In, last night the group decided to take to social media and post a quick 15-second teaser video to their followers. What this video may be about? only guesses and rumors are circulating to what the band is planning for the near future. According to our friends at mxdwn.co.uk, whatever exciting news this is will be announced tomorrow on the 21st January 2016. Whether it is new material, or a tour announcement, plenty are excited for the potential news to come.
The Texas native, post-hardcore, punk band started their journey in 1993, they released three studio albums and five EP’s before breaking up in 2001. The group started they’re journey with the release of their first LP Acrobatic Tenement which they then debuted with a large tour which during At the Drive-In began developing a large underground following by mostly playing in basements and small venues across the western United States, with their popularity being spread by word of mouth among fans. The following years saw two more studio albums In/casino/out, and their final album Relationship of Command which received a number of accolades and is cited as a landmark of the post-hardcore genre
Through their history At The Drive-In have had many numerous internal struggles between band members, most commonly founding members Omar Rodriguez, Cedric Bixler and Jim Ward who have had trouble consistently seeing eye to eye, At The Drive-In haven’t released any new material for pushing 16 years now, leading fans and critics to believe that the band was over and they would no longer play, but it seems as though they have chosen to set aside petty differences and come together again to create something special for their adoring fans.
Before this announcement, all that was known was that At The Drive-In were set to reunite after many years and perform live once again at Ohio’s Rock on the Range Festival (see the article here), and whilst those plans do not seem to have changed; to receive new material on top of this was completely unheard of. However, all the signs in the teaser video would lead you to believe that new music, rather than a new tour, will be the expected announcement. The clue that would make a person guess this is the fact that in the teaser video it is unheard of music playing in the background, rather than an old snippet from the tracklist history.
Considering all the factors involved, no matter what the announcement the band chooses to make, it seems that they have already captured their fans attention and will be showing us what they actually have in store tomorrow.
