Club’s 6th-annual Undercover series to unveil and destroy their grotesque-rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s classic 80’s hit: “She Bop.” Having laid-claim to a series of uniquely-designed covers of acclaimed-standards over the years, the band’s appearance at the Undercover series has become somewhat of a highly-anticipated tradition.
Hailing from Richmond, VA, these rambunctious junkie-gargoyles clad in exceedingly-decadent, detailed armor and make-up forever fulfill their fictional narrative of galactic-warriors set to conquer the cosmos on their own terms. Offering only the most obnoxious of fairytales to grace the A.V. Club, the soldiers of GWAR have conjured-up violently-risque version of “Carry On My Wayward Son,” a rousing tribute to The Ramones‘ “Blitzkrieg Bop,” and even a shell-shocking cover of “West End Girls,” as made famous by the Pet Shop Boys in the past.
GWAR‘s “destroy-by-design” rendition of Lauper’s once infectious anthem of the era, fresh off-the-heels of the smash-hit: “Girls Just Want To Have Fun,” pulls back the curtains to reveal the ugly-stepchild with acne nobody wants to seemingly address. Bolstered in jagged-filth, these garage-metaliers unfurl their wicked sorcery, shredding-through power-chords, growls, and shrills alike, not missing a single step in the pace.
