Alternative hip-hop collective Jurassic 5 will perform at Club Nokia on July 9. The group formed in 1993 from members of two previous groups, Rebels of Rhythm and Unity Committee the Los Angeles. They achieved an acclaimed position in the 1990s alternative hip-hop movement.
The band reunited for Coachella in 2013 after a 6-year hiatus. The group’s six original members – Akil, Zaakir, Marc 7, DJ Nu-Mark, Chali 2na, and Cut Chemist – then embarked on a yearlong string of sold-out concerts and festivals in Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. In 2014, the band announced its 20th Anniversary “Word Of Mouth Reunion Tour,” which is set to be the next chapter of Jurassic 5’s legacy. The group delivered an intimate set of classics from their catalog to faithful fans across the country.
After a short break for solo projects, the group is back for 2015, having toured Australia, New Zealand and Japan, and is now returning to the U.S. and Europe. To date, Jurassic 5 has released four albums, the latest Feedback in 2006. Chali 2na stated that the group had discussed plans of putting out a live album sometime in the near future. The group is set to perform in L.A. on Thursday, July 9 at Club Nokia so don’t miss out!
