Devo will be playing ACL Live on July 2, giving the public a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear the legendary, experimental music the group created in 1974-1977. The tour the band is going on is dedicated to Robert Casale — the band’s former guitarist and keyboardist. There will be VIP tickets availible that will include a meet-and-greet with the band and rare, limited edition photo prints by photographers during the bands pre-label days. A portion of the proceeds from the tour will go to Robert Casale’s family.

Devo is an American rock band from Akron, Ohio, that formed in 1972. They had their breakthrough in 1980 when their single “Whip It” was released. It reached No. 14 on Billboard charts. Their music style has developed over time and has been called punk, art rock, post-punk, and new wave rock.

Their music features unusual synthetic instruments and time signatures that have been influential on many other artists in the popular new wave genre, along with industrial and alternative rock artists. Devo also created some of the first funky music videos, creating many memorable clips using the laserdisc format, with “Whip It” getting heavy airplay in the early days of MTV. The video can be seen here.
