Long live the King of the Droids! Josh Homme, normally a Queen of the Stone Age, has decided to make his bid for the role of R2D2 in the upcoming Star Wars movie. Yes, he may be a 6’5″, famously deadpan ginger, but passion finds a way.
…and so it’s probably a good thing this is a joke. The QOTSA frontman joined forces with youtube channel Stinky Mike to produce the spoof, a low budget take on the casting process for Episode VII, which is due out in 2015 (you should probably start lining up for tickets). You have to admit, there’s something terribly plausible about this. Homme has some star power, some charisma, and honestly, anything goes after Jar Jar. We should probably just chuck this one at Disney and make sure they’re paying attention.
Homme hasn’t been spending all his time campaigning for a place in robotic monarchy though. It’s been a banner year for the Queens of the Stone Age, Like Clockwork was released earlier this year to widespread acclaim. A couple of high-power upcoming appearances have also been recently announced, as QOTSA is due to share stage with Neil Young later this month, and one with NIN in 2014. Seriously though – we’d pay money to see Homme perform in his R2D2 suit.
