The Black Keys Sue Pizza Hut and Home Depot For Use of Songs Without Permissions in Commercials

The Black Keys are suing Pizza Hut and Home Depot for allegedly using hit songs from their recent album, El Camino, in their commercials without authorization.

The band claims that in an ad for Cheesy Bites Pizza, Pizza Hut used “significant portions” of the song “Gold on the Ceiling,” and that Home Depot used “Lonely Boy” in a Ryobi power tools commercial. Frontman Dan Auerbach, drummer Patrick Carney and producer Brian Burton (Danger Mouse) filed the copyright-infringement suits a few days ago in Los Angeles.

The Black Keys’ lawyers are calling the commercials a “brazen and improper effort to capitalize on plaintiffs’ hard-earned success,” and claim that the band sent letters to both companies in May asking them to stop airing the commercials to no avail.
