Greetings friends! I have returned after a week long (okay maybe longer…no one denies the tropics okay??) hiatus, refreshed, rejuvenated and eager to dish on a slew of sweet concerts coming up in LA…the first of which is taking place TOMORROW at the Avalon. The performers? YouTube sensation Boyce Avenue, Clara C, Jayesslee and Joseph Vincent, along with rock band Satellite and Tournament of Hearts (T.o.H). V-logger and comedian David So will play host. Sure, YouTube stars aren’t my usual fodder, but I’ve checked some of these guys out and get this- they’re actually pretty damn good. (But seriously, what’s up with all the utter adorableness spilling out in every vid? I just wanna pinch all of their cute little cheeks!) Satellite is a LA-based rock band formed by SR-71 frontman Mitch Allan (remember the song “1985” by Bowling For Soup? you can thank them for penning that tune) (It’s slightly disturbing how well I can sing along to the chorus even now) and their sound is alternative rock with just enough mellow pop thrown in to get them stuck in your head, Snow Patrol “Chasing Cars”- style.
Oh, almost forgot to mention the coolest part: this event is all for a good cause. All proceeds benefit Not For Sale, a campaign to fight modern day slavery and human trafficking. In case you’re a little too lazy too burned out from SXSW to get off your bum and get to Hollywood, they’re streaming the entire concert live online for just $5! And once again, all money goes to Not For Sale, so even if you’re not a YouTube fanboy or fangirl, see it as an opportunity to support a great cause on a serious issue affecting thousands around the world.
