For those longing for the bright hopes of intelligent, progressive hard rock once wildly exhibited by the early careers of Thursday and At the Drive-In, look no further than Titus Andronicus. The unassuming group perform with a desperate fervor, a display that delivers smile-inducing happiness through a form of victory-pulled-from-the-jaws-of-defeat enthusiasm. There’s a lineage to be found in Titus Andronicus from bands all over the map including Social Distortion, Dropkick Murphy’s and the aforementioned At the Drive-In, but make no mistake, this is a band to watch. Hard rock needs intellectual depth like this, and even with a paranoid chant of “The enemy is everywhere,” the crow was enraptured with ease.
