On October 14th, a tribute album for Elliot Smith will be released via American Laundromat. The Album will feature artists such as Yuck, Waxahatchee, J.Mascis and Sun-Kil-Moon.
The album will feature 14 original Elliot Smith songs including ‘Ballad of Big Nothing,’ ‘Needle in the Hay’ and Good Will Hunting’s ‘Miss Misery’. The label American Laundromat, has an appreciation for tribute albums, as it previously released a 2014’s compilation ‘I Saved Latin! A Tribute to Wes Anderson.
In 2014, a documentary about Elliot Smiths life came out with unreleased songs, pictures, and rare footage in addition to interviews with Smith’s friends and collaborators. Some important figures who appeared in the documentary include Smith’s sister Ashley, Joanna Bolme, Jon Brion, Neil Gust, Larry Crane and Rob Schnapf. The Soundtrack for the documentary was released on February 5th including several, never released Elliot Smith tracks.
Elliot Smith began his solo career in 1993, and though he was very young, only lived to play music for ten years due to a sudden death. On October 21, 2003 Elliot was found with two stab wounds to the chest that to this day are unconfirmed by a coroner to be self inflicted or caused by someone else.
