Laura Mvula has released a new single, “Overcome” with Nile Rodgers.
The official video for “Overcome” was produced by Troy Miller, who has previously worked with Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson and Rumer. According to a press release, Mvula initially sent Rodgers the first version of the song and he asked to collaborate for the final version.
The single serves as a reminder of Mvula’s humble beginnings combined with the progress she has made since then. Rodgers brings upbeat sounds that combine with Mvula’s soft harmonies in order to create a product that showcases both artists’ individual talents.
Mvula’s debut album, Sing To The Moon, made its mark on many critics’ year-end lists, including The Wall Street Journal, NPR, Rolling Stone, The New York Times, LA Times, People Magazine,Vulture, the New York Daily News, Buzzfeed, and several more. The album reached the Top 10 in the UK, Won 2 Mobo Awards for Best Female and best R and B Soul Artist and received Mercury, Ivor Novello and Brit Awards nominations.
