Oh happy day!!! Why all the excitment you ask? Well, The Violent Femmes have just announced the release of their latest album, We Can Do Anything.
There is no need to go into detail about the greatness that is the Violent Femmes. Their music has always produced a fun, popular, and energetic style that combines a unique twist of music ranging from punk-to-folk. The years to follow their formation in 1981 would never produce another band with the style that has come to be so well-known with the Violent Femmes. They have made their mark in history as being the kind of band that comes around every-so-often, and one that is incredibly edgy and special.
This is a special release for the trio, considering it is their first full-length assemblage in over 15 years, making it that much more anticipated. While they have had many cult classics, and a cult following as well, this newly released album is sure to excite fans. We Can Do Anything is a well-suited title for the album of a band who really has proven in a world of lacking originality, that being different and kinda quirky is something that proves to be popular and alays in demand, no matter ’80s, ’90s or now.
According to the band’s press release, their ninth studio-album is one that came together with a little reminiscing from older works, not forgotten, just left in the past. “Gano gathered the album’s material by diving headlong into his own voluminous archives, listening to ancient cassette demos and leafing through old journals in search of suitable songs”, as stated in the press release.
Contributing to the album’s cover art is Barenaked Ladies’ Kevin Hearn, who also according to the press release, contributied his talents in the forms of keyboards, guitar and backing vocals, as well as the accordian.
With the addition of drummer Brian Viglione in 2013, the band toured and continued to gain their footing, even through changes within the band, and have managed to continue to make it happen.
We Can Do Anything, will fall into the hands of wildly anxious fans on March 4th, and plans to follow the albums release with a sure-to-be-talked-about tour will absolutely be in the making. It is always great to see bands that have had such a heavy impact on music endure through decades of change, and ever-revolving-style preserver, and still continue to make music that excites listeners.
