Chris Cornell of Soundgarden stopped by Sirius XM’s channel “Lithium” to perform Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U”
Although Sinead O’Connor had solidified the song as an acclaimed single, Cornell’s rendition differentiates from O’Connor’s cover as well as the original song, which was written for Prince’s side project The Family. The cover is an acoustic version which strips it of its synths and saxophones, yet still sustains its intensity as it is accompanied by solemn violin.
Cornell has been on tour in support of his fifth solo album, Higher Truth, which first single “Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart” was released earlier this month. Soundgarden has also announced that they are working on a new album for 2016, as previously reported by mxdwn.
