A seminal moment in punk history is set to take place, as legendary Northwestern grunge band Babes In Toyland is confirmed for a reunion tour to commence this summer and bring America their first string of performances in decades. This is the first united tour for the band, which was at the height of its fame during the Gen X years of the early 90s, since the group’s breakup in 2001. They played their first live gig in 18 years at The Roxy in Los Angeles on February 12.
The tour started in Europe last week, and will come Stateside by the end of the month, starting in the city of the group’s genesis, Minneapolis. The band will cover a lot of ground, but won’t make it to key cities on the West and East coasts. This tour comes after years of rumors about a possible band reunion, based on a 2013 interview with singer Kat Bjelland and bassist Maureen Herman on a Pasadena College radio station, in which they stated their desire to write new material and play a few shows.
Babes in Toyland consists of vocalist and guitarist Kat Bjelland, drummer Lori Barbero, and bassist Maureen Herman. They are known for their critically acclaimed and commercially successful albums Fontanelle, released in 1992, as well as their debut Spanking Machine, which came out in 1990, as the grunge scene was starting to take over the West Coast. It is rumored that Courtney Love, widow of famous rock star Kurt Cobain, was once part of the band, but all members have denied this to be the case.
Check out the tour dates below to see if the 90s are coming back to your town.
