Heart is an American rock band that has been around for nearly four decades. The band rose to fame in the mid-1970s with music influenced by hard rock, heavy metal, and folk. Their popularity declined in the early 1980s, but bounced back in early 1985. Recently, with the release of Jupiter’s Darling (2004), Red Velvet Car (2010), and Fanatic (2012), Heart made a return to their hard rock and acoustic folk roots.
Heart has sold more than 35 million albums, sold out arenas worldwide, and found their way into the soundtrack of American life through radio, motion pictures, television, and associations. Today, songs made famous by Heart are heard in every aspect of contemporary culture.
Heart was ranked number 57 on VH1s 100 Greatest Artist of Hard Rock, and Ann an Nancy Wilson ranked number 40 on VH1s 100 Greatest Women in Rock and Roll chart. In 2009, the Wilson sister were awarded ASCAP’s Founders Award in recognition of their songwriting career. In 2013, Heart was announced as inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame referred to the sisters as “pioneers … that inspired women to pick up an electric guitar or start a band”.
