Porno for Pyros is an alternative rock band that formed following the first break-up of Jane’s Addiction. They are from Los Angeles, CA and began recording music together in the early 90s. The band currently consists of founding members Perry Farrell (vocals), Stephen Perkins (drums,) and Peter DiStefano (guitar). Bass guitarists Martyn LeNoble and Mike Watt have both rotated in and out of the band over the years.
After the downfall of the widely popular and successful band, Jane’s Addiction, frontman Farrell and drummer Perkins formed Porno for Pyros. Once they gained guitarist DiStefano and bass player LeNoble, the band was officially formed. Farrell stated that he named the band after seeing an ad for fireworks in a pornographic magazine. There is also a connection to the LA riots that were going on during the beginning of the band.
In 2009, Porno for Pyros went on an extended hiatus, that originally was going to see a reunion in 2013, but that never came to fruition. In 2020, they announced that for the first time in 22 years, the original line-up would be reuniting to play Lolla2020, and soon after they claimed to be working on new music.
The original four-piece recorded new material in 2023, with plans to release a four-track EP in 2024. After a full reunion tour was rescheduled to 2024, LeNoble amicably left the band in November 2023, with the band subsequently announcing that their forthcoming tour would be a farewell tour.
