Hayley Williams relocated to Franklin, Tennessee, from Meridian, Mississippi, in 2002, which is when Paramore initially came together. While participating in a nearby music program for homeschooled youngsters, she met there brothers Josh and Zac Farro.
Paramore have received praise that much outweighs their early popularity as one of the leading stars of the emo era of the mid-2000s. They are recognized for their anthemic, profoundly emotional brand of pop/rock. The band, fronted by vocalist Hayley Williams, had their breakthrough with the album Riot! (2007), reaching number 15 on the Billboard 200 and giving birth to their signature single “Misery Business.” With Brand New Eyes (2009), they peaked at number two, and with Paramore (2013), they topped the Billboard 200, winning a Grammy for the song “Ain’t It Fun” in the process. The band has evolved over the years, adopting a more diverse combination of dance-rock and ’80s-style synth influences. As a result of this process, they have reduced from a sometimes-quintet to a threesome for a refined After Laughter (2017). Williams has worked with musicians like Zedd and Chvrches on equally varied projects outside of Paramore. She started a solo career with Petals for Armor in 2020. Her follow-up album, Flowers for Vases/Descansos, which debuted at number 18 on the Billboard 200 in 2021, was made possible by the success of her debut. Williams reunited with Paramore in 2023 to record their artistic, post-punk-influenced sixth studio album, This Is Why.
