Sarah McLachlan is a singer/songwriter pop artist that has drawn fans from around the world since the Nova Scotia native appeared in 1988 with her U.S. gold-certified debut, “Touch”. Following a successful tour with Paula Cole more than 10 years later, McLachlan co-founded the touring festival Lilith Fair with a determination of showcasing female musicians consecutively (something that was uncommon for a concert promoter during those days). The show featured talents like Jewel, Tracy Chapman, Sheryl Crow, Emmylou Harris, and Fiona Apple. The opening of the Lilith Fair was the top-grossing festival tour of 1997, and its growing popularity proved that talented female performers was something the public thought was an amazing idea.
During the late ’90s, McLachlan had two hits in “Adia” and “Angel,” both from her Canadian success, U.S. # 2 album Surfacing, which was her fourth LP. Not to mention, she won two of her three Grammy nominations derived from hit “Building a Mystery” and the live version of “I Will Remember You.” Her Top Ten spell in North America carried on due to albums Afterglow (2003), Wintersong (2006) and Shine On (2014). Following the Grammy-nominated Christmas album Wonderland ( 2016), Sarah McLachlan was initiated into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2017. She continued her touring into the late 2010s.
