Beth Orton has announced her first North American headlining tour in five years in support of her upcoming LP Weather Alive. After a few festival sets and headlining shows in Europe, she will begin the US leg on November 1 in Washington DC. Other stops include Chicago, Seattle and Los Angeles before concluding on November 22 in Vancouver. Tickets for the tour will go on sale this Friday, August 19 on Ticketmaster.
In addition to the tour announcement, she also released her latest single “Friday Night” and its music video. The music video sees Orton sitting in front of a window with flashback videos of her and her children in between her singing. Orton described the song as “someone reflecting on and trying to decide what to give up or what to surrender to. Passion or ambivalence? Whether to ‘bleed or rust in the rain.’ ” With Friday night in particular, she notes that it is the night of the week where it “…makes the week more bearable, there is hope.” She continues to say “Coming to realize what is real and what is out of reach can be unbelievably painful, waking up to the love that remains can be the greatest gift and the most wonderful surprise.” “Friday Night” also includes The Smile drummer Tom Skinner, multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily and The Invisible bassist Tom Herbert. Listen to it below.
“Friday Night” follows her previously released song “Forever Young.” Weather Alive is set to be released on September 30 via Partisan Records.
