Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, Channy Leaneagh of Poliça and Jenny Lewis all appear on a new track from Swamp Dogg called “Sleeping Without You Is A Dragg.” The all-star track will be featured on Swamp Dogg’s upcoming LP Sorry You Couldn’t Make It, releasing March 6 via Joyful Noise and Pioneer Works Press. According to Pitchfork, the new record will include nine additional tracks, with two including features with John Prine.
Swamp Dogg made a statement about the record, stating “They didn’t have any blacks in country until Charley Pride came along.” He continued on saying “But in time, all things change and that’s what has happened to country music…. I’m anxious because it’s like I’ve taken all my money and put it on one horse. But I believe in this horse.”
Sorry You Couldn’t Make It serves as the follow up to 2018’s Love, Loss, and Auto-Tune, which also features a guest appearance from Vernon and produced by fellowPoliça member Ryan Olson.
Prior to being known as Swamp Dogg, the R&B singer was known as Little Jerry Williams, which is also his real name, Jerry Williams Jr. He gained notoriety under the moniker with his hit song “Baby You’re My Everything” released in 1966. Williams is also a producer and writer. He co-wrote Gene Pitney’s up-tempo hit, “She’s a Heartbreaker” with Charlie Foxx in 1968 and also “To the Other Woman (I’m the Other Woman)” by Doris Duke, and “She Didn’t Know (She Kept on Talking)” by Dee Dee Warwick with Gary U.S. Bonds.
