Adult Swim has announced the next annual phase of their Singles Program, a year-long initiative hosting weekly free music from a diverse list of artists. The 2019 lineup has announced serpentwithfeet, Flying Lotus, Lingua Ignota, DAWN, Matthew Dear, Nina Kravitz, Machinedrum, Algiers, Mary Lattimore and DJ Paypal on their roster for the program, with more artists to be announced soon.
Previous artists that have been included on the singles program include Run The Jewels, Brian Eno, Sia, LCD Soundsystem, Slayer, Broken Social Scene, Skrillex, Freddie Gibbs + Madlib, Mastodon, Wye Oak, Ghostface Killa, Future, Flying Lotus, Giorgio Moroder, Vince Staples, Shabazz Palaces and Obituary.
Adult Swim has heavily promoted different artists, regardless of their genre, with prominent spotlights placed on up-and-coming or underground metal, electronic, hip hop, noise, and experimental artists in the past. The instrumental “bumps” that Adult Swim has played on their programming block helped launch the career of artists such as Flying Lotus.
Flying Lotus recently dropped his album Flamagra earlier this year, which was supported by singles such as “Fire Is Coming,” and “More.” The performer is also set to make an appearance on the WXAXRXP Sessions Box Set, which will host a variety of recorded radio sessions from prominent artists on the Warp Records roster.
Lingua Ignota released their project Caligula earlier this year as well, which was noted for its interpersonal lyrics and fierce emotional presence throughout its tracks. “The best way to describe her songs are as “survivor anthems.” It is clear through her lyrics and vulnerability portrayed in each track of Caligula that she draws on her own experience as a survivor of domestic violence,” mxdwn reviewer Erin Winans explained.
DAWN released the project new breed earlier this year, which displayed her unique take on R&B.
