Harley Flannigan and the Cro-Mags have had a successful 2019 so far, and it looks like it’s about to get a whole lot better. After settling a legal dispute over the band’s name with former band members John Joseph and Mackie Jayson, the Cro-Mags were ready to get back to making music. Having just finished up a European headlining tour, Cro-Mags delivers a punishing new track full of aggression titled, “From The Grave.” On top of the new single release they also announced a New EP under the same name which will be available in limited quantities of clear with black smoke, solid yellow, clear orange and glow in the dark vinyl editions on December 6th. You can pre-order your copy here.
According to the New York Post, back in May of 2018 Flannigan had filed a lawsuit claiming that Joseph and Jayson had taken control of the group and used the band name without permission, he goes on to say that he left the band in 2002 to raise his first son which is about the time the singer and drummer started using the moniker without permission. A year later they finally reached an agreement on the name of the band, Flannigan won the rights to the name of the band which meant Joseph and Jayson could continue touring but only if they used the name Cro-Mags JM. It didn’t take long for the group to spring back into action, going on a string of performances including their European tour.
Lead by Harley Flannigan, the band recruits help from legendary Motorhead guitarist, Phil Campbell. Flannigan goes on to explain that legendary heavy metal musician and founder of Motorhead, Lemmy Kilmister, came to him in a dream and said “Take it back mate, it’s yours, you started it” and once he woke up he got his band’s name back he figured the best way to repay the late Kilmister was to recruit his former bandmate and legendary slinger, Phil Campbell, hence how the song and EP got its name, “From The Grave.” The song immediately starts with the heavy, devilish sounding guitar riff before the dark sounding yet somewhat encouraging lyrics screech through. The EP will include three new tracks from the band with one of them being an instrumental. You can check out the song, EP artwork, and track list below.
