Ryan Adams has poised himself to make a major impact on the music scene in 2019 by announcing he’ll release not one, but three new albums this year. So far he’s revealed the titles of two of the albums, Big Colors and Wednesdays. Today, he’s officially released the first new song from Big Colors, a tracked called “Fuck The Rain.” Big Colors will be released on April 19, 2019. There’s no official release date for Wednesdays yet.
The song is pure Ryan Adams. The electric-acoustic guitars are wistful and jangly, the lyricism introspective and thoughtful. Stylistically, it perfectly straddles that line between indie pop and alt-country. In a quote that is also perfectly in line with the artist’s mentality and online persona, he said: “Check out this song it’s cool. Or don’t- we all might die trump is president. I love you, sincerely Ryan Adams.”
While the first two albums have been announced, the third doesn’t have a title yet. Last we checked in with Adams he was performing at the Chris Cornell tribute at The Forum in Inglewood last week. Joining artists like Peter Frampton, Brandi Carlile, Fiona Apple and Miguel, Melvins, Perry Ferrell, Juliette Lewis and Dave Grohl. Adams played a powerful cover of the Soundgarden classic “Fell On Black Days.”
We last received an album from Adams in 2017, when he released Prisoner. The album was filled with personal anguish, stemming in part from the very public divorce from wife of six years Mandy Moore. That record included tracks like “Doomsday” and “Do You Still Love Me?”
