Legendary pianist and composer Herbie Hancock will be performing at the Hollywood Bowl on Sun. September 30th as part of the Celebrate LA! event. The musician will be joined by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Gustavo Dudamel, Katy Perry, Kali Uchis, and Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA). Entrance to the event is free with registration for a limited time. The event is available to those 18 years old or older and will begin at 7:00 PM.
Herbie Hancock has had a noteworthy career that has spanned for 50 years and has gathered 14 Grammy Awards. As a Chicago native, Herbie was gifted with his talent on the piano at an early age. After polishing his skills and gaining exposure several years later, Herbie eventually joined the Miles Davis Quintet. It was here that Herbie became one of the pioneers of the post-bop sound. He then later experimented with different genres of music including jazz fusion, funk, and electro. His primarily known compositions include, Watermelon, Cantaloupe Island, Maiden Voyage, and Chameleon. These pieces were known by nearly all musicians and birthed unique iterations over the years.
Now Herbie has occasional shows at the Hollywood Bowl, however, this particular show is special in its own. The show is celebrating the 100th year anniversary of the LA Philharmonic. Herbie and all the other great acts will definitely put on a show to remember on this historic night.
