Stone Temple Pilots announced their first tour with new vocalist, Jeff Gutt, set for March of next year. Gutt debuted with the band in November of this year, but has not yet played on a full-fledged tour. They will hit the road or the skies in March and travel around until May; a tour that begins and ends in the only months that begin with ‘m.’
“We are thrilled to see all of you and share in the music that belongs to all of us,” said guitarist Dean DeLeo in the group’s press release. DeLeo’s brother, Robert, plays bass and sings backup. Eric Kretz plays the drums.
Scott Weiland originally lead vocals for the band until he was fired in 2013. Two years later, Weiland died on a tour bus just before a show. Chester Bennington, who tragically passed away this summer, took over Weiland’s role in 2013 after the firing. Bennington later left the group when Linkin Park became his main focus.
Stone Temple Pilot’s two previous singers have left an obvious cavern that Gutt will have to fill. A former contestant on “The X-Factor,” Gutt sang on the group’s first song since the deaths of their two previous singers, “Meadow.” He delivers in the studio recording, as he did during their live performance on November fourteenth. Fans will look forward to the influence of a fresh face on music that they’ve loved for years.
“We wanted someone who would not only do our earlier songs justice, but would also write new songs and carve out a different path forward with us. It took some time, but we found our guy.”
