Blackbird Presents recently announced Exodus 40 Live, an amazing all-star concert celebration concert taking place Wednesday, Nov. 1 at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles. With many coming together to help celebrate the 40th anniversary of one of the most exemplary and enriching albums ever released, the evening is set to feature performances by a remarkable lineup of artists.
Music director Don Was will join musicians Ziggy Marley, Stephen Marley, Tom Morello, Gary Clark Jr., Jim James, Citizen Cope, Aloe Blacc, Cyril Neville and Terence Higgins with additional artists to be announced in the coming weeks, according to a press release.
“I am thrilled to be a part of this show with Ziggy and Stephen, and perform these songs for the fans,” said Don Was, according to a press release.
The founder and CEO of Blackbird Presents also said that Bob Marley’s songs are more important than ever, the press release noted. Tickets just went on sale last week via Ticketmaster, but fans can also purchase tickets at the Orpheum Theatre box office.
In 1977, Bob Marley was exiled to London after escalating political violence in Jamaica led to an assassination attempt on his life that he survived. While residing there, Marley and the Wailers recorded their ninth reggae album titled Exodus, which was later released through Island Records. Utilizing elements of blues, soul, British rock and funk, Marley made one of the greatest albums of all time.
The album, which is separated into two halves, fittingly represents two sides that Marley wanted to emulate through music. Exodus is a crucial album, fundamental to music lovers everywhere. BBC said it was Marley’s greatest work of all time, as well as the best selling reggae record of all time. This album is what propelled Marley into international fame.
In 1999, Time magazine labeled Bob Marley’s Exodus the best album of the 20th century.
