Last month, Godspeed You! Black Emperor announced that their long-awaited seventh record, Luciferian Towers would be coming in September 2017. Like much of their prior work, Luciferian Towers will deal with political topics like inequality and human folly. A week ago, they made the album available for pre-order and released the first song, “Undoing a Luciferian Tower.” The ominous song set a sinister tone for the latest album, and today we get the last note. “Anthem For No State, Pt. III” is the closing song on the album, and it ends as grandly dark as it begins.
“kanada, emptied of its minerals and dirty oil. emptied of its trees and water. a crippled thing, drowning in a puddle, covered in ants. the ocean doesn’t give a shit because it knows it’s dying too.” The official song description paints a dystopian picture of our world, ending in something that reads like the calm after an explosion. Sonically, “Anthem For No State, Pt. III” feels similar, chaotic and apocalyptic in nature.
The full album will not be available until September 22nd, 2017. It’s runtime is 43:50, and it will be available on CD, vinyl, or digitally. After that, a European tour will start in Rome, and continue through November.
