Gorillaz (a British virtual band created in 1998 by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett) recently the band announced that their signature cartoon members Murdoc Niccals and 2D will be participating in a live on-camera interview for the first time ever on April 20 at 10 a.m. EST. The band consists of four animated members: 2-D (lead vocals, keyboards), Murdoc Niccals (bass guitar and vocals), Noodle (guitar, keyboards, and vocals) and Russel Hobbs (drums and percussion). However, the members are fictional and are not personas of any “real life” musicians involved in the project.

The fictional universe Gorillaz has created can be explored through the band’s website, music videos and a number of other media. Gorillaz are set to release their next studio album Humanz, and in the interview, the two characters of Murdoc Niccals and 2D will be speaking with MistaJam (a BBC Radio 1 DJ and host). The will also be answering listener questions that have been submitted online. Fans can go to the live stream page to submit questions now. Though the band has previously done audio interviews, this will be the first time Murdoc and 2-D have done an interview on-camera.
Gorillaz recently announced a North American tour behind their upcoming album, which features Grace Jones, Mavis Staples, Danny Brown, De La Soul, Pusha T, Kali Uchis, Kelela, and many more. Thus far, the band have released several songs off the new record: “Saturnz Barz” [ft. Popcaan], “Ascension” [ft. Vince Staples], “We Got the Power” [ft. Jehnny Beth of Savages], “Andromeda” [ft. D.R.A.M.], and “Let Me Out” [ft. Mavis Staples and Pusha T].
