The not-so-far fetched collaboration of Interpol front man Paul Banks and Wu-Tang producer/rapper RZA, cka BANKS & STEELZ, is an experience akin to being sucked into a musical vortex not knowing where rap begins and rock ends. These types of projects shouldn’t come to a surprise when RZA is in the conversation, as he is known to venture out and collaborate with the best of them, regardless of musical genre, over a game of chess.
BANKS & STEELZ originally started making music together back in 2011 when Banks lent his vocals to a RZA production. The two had no real desire or thought to release any kind of album but when an A&R caught wind of what was cooking in the oven they began to work on a joint project. They began recording the album in 2013 which ran parallel with the news that Banks and Bobby Steelz had officially become BANKS and STEELZ.
On Monday April, 17, BANKS & STEELZ will be throwing down at the El Rey Theatre as one of the many sideshows that Coachella is putting on during the month of April. For a demonstration of supreme creative agility and musical production, make this show a priority.
