Tokyo’s kings (and queens) of post-rock Mono are enjoying a nearly twenty-year stint as international leaders within their genre. Now, high off their ninth-studio album and Steven Albini produced, 2016’s Requiem for Hell, the sinister-in-sound instrumentalists have just announced a 2017 North American Tour.
According to Brooklyn Vegan, Mono plans to sweep the North American continents in a series of shows spanning from April to June. And, the first two gigs (Minneapolis, MN + Madison, WI) will be supported by…drum-roll please…California’s doom-metal sweethearts Sleep. Okay so maybe not-so sweet, but definitely stoned.
Alas though, and fear not: those who feel slighted in the absence of Sleep (no pun intended), get their fix of epic supporting acts via Portland “Wierdo”/late-nineties Lo-Fi team captain Holy Sons.
Whatever the weather, however, Mono’s return to America promises a national surrender to all things pointing towards this awe-inspiring, Japanese band. Aweee yeahhhh.
