Relics of progressive rock and Los Angeles-based group ÆGES welcome the new single off of their July 2016 release Weightless. The new video, produced by Eric Power, for the group’s title track is a stop-motion journey into a cartoon epic that begs to combine Star Trek and 2001: A Space Odyssey (minus the monkeys of course).
Frontman for ÆGES describes inspiration for the video and the group’s collaboration with Power as, “We wanted to try something new with this video. I found Eric Power by digging around the internet and was blown away by his work. Every character was handmade and all of the scenes were created in stop motion…how rad is that!? We wanted a video with monsters, bright colors, and space…and left the rest up to Eric’s vivid imagination.”
Vivid is right and works seamlessly with the hi-lighted song. Words to the track Weightless constantly return back to “I lost my head”, and consequently feelings of mania and confusion go hand in hand with both track and video. Ultimate connections to the onslaught of information and accessibility accessibility accessibility well, everything collide into subtle inferences brought up in the song’s contextual nature. Illusions of paranoia entangle them self in a menagerie of roaring vocals and illuminating shots to the bass of the symbol. Subsequent guitar solos are taken that enunciate shrill cries from a beautiful, dying animal. Something near carnal is eradicated from the track’s listen, while the video plays at something a bit more tangible, or be it metaphoric.
While the band welcomes new music and enlists such endeavors for their fans around the world, more local to the Los-Angeles-area lovers of ÆGES can catch the group play a host of upcoming shows for November and December, in the upcoming weeks. Hurray.
