Without further adieu the xx will be breaking their four-year-long silence on January 13th of next year with their third album, titled I See You. Since their last album Coexist back in 2012, the members of the band have an keeping busy with solo projects and array of odd jobs, including Jamie xx’s debut solo album In Colour. Along with the news of their forthcoming album, the band left this reassuring note to fans on their website: “It has been awhile, but you have been on our minds!”
The London-based trio was so gracious as to give fans a sample of what is in store on this anxiously awaited album with the track “On Hold”. Lyrically, it is their typical tastefully executed tale of the trials and tribulations of love and heartbreak. Beautifully sad and prettily poetic, Oliver Sim sings, “Every time I let you leave, I always saw you coming back to me … Where and when did we go cold? I thought I had you on hold.” That hopelessly romantic hymn atop instrumentals that are comparatively upbeat beside the productions found on preceding albums, the combination creations a consonant track that requires the listeners involuntary physical and emotional attention equally and simultaneously.
