My Chemical Romance is currently on the road for the North American leg of their Long Live The Black Parade anniversary tour. Last night’s Phoenix show saw a tribute to the late wrestler and former Everytime I Die guitarist Andy Williams, along with the first-ever performance of “The Light Before Your Eyes.”
In honor of the album’s anniversary, the band opened the show with The Black Parade in full before moving to a B-stage for a second set, as reported by NME. During this transition to the second set, My Chemical Romance played “Boy Division” from the 2013 EP Conventional Weapons.
Right before jumping into the song, frontman Gerard Way says, “This one’s for The Butcher.” The Butcher is the ring name for Andy Williams, who tragically passed away after collapsing during a wrestling show in Pennsylvania over the weekend.
Toward the end of their set, the rock band played Conventional Weapons’s “The Light Behind Your Eyes” live for the first time, with Way dedicating the song to his daughter.
“I wrote this song for my daughter,” Way said before performing. “If there’s something I could leave for her, it’d be this one; it’s called ‘The Light Behind Your Eyes’.”
The Long Live The Black Parade tour has had other first-time live performances so far, with the band playing “Ambulance” for the first time during their Glasgow show back in July. The tour is set to close on November 22nd in Jakarta, Indonesia.
